The Proposal

One of my favorite qualities in Mike is his ability to celebrate life and have fun no matter what else is going on. The best way to describe our lives in California is busy. But even with graduate school full time, full time jobs at busy start-ups, and running his own company we find time to explore, travel, hike and have fun together. If our car is broken into, Facebook has a bug making Mike’s customers upset or I have a professor giving me a hard time; Mike’s attitude is always the same, “it is what it is”. We will fix the car, Mike will deal with the bug, and I will finish silly homework, but we are still going to the campfire on the beach, wine tasting in sonoma and whale watching down the 101.

Our engagement story perfectly resembles our life together. Ignoring last minute schedule changes, rained out reservations, and finals we found time to have fun together. The most valuable thing about life is time and time is passing quickly whether you take advantage of it or not. I am most excited for my life with Mike knowing we will always take advantage of every second.

“You are my adventure partner and I cannot wait to explore for the rest of my life with you.” ~Mike Seid

The theme of our weekend was adventure. He wanted to do what we do best, explore together! We were running from El Nino, and Seattle, of all places, was scheduled for beautiful sunny weather. We took an early flight, arrived in Seattle then headed to the Vintage Boutique Hotel.

Staying in a beautiful suite on the top floor we planned out a weekend full of rest, relaxation, exploration and of course great food and delicious wine. We walked to the Purple Cafe where we had a delicious lunch and flights of the best wine in Washington.

After lunch we went to the Public Market to look at the first Starbucks, but actually drink the coffee from an awesome hole in the wall called Ghost Alley Coffee.

After exploring comic stores and local artisan shops we went back to our suite for a bottle of champagne.

Friday night we went to Capitol Hill for some delicious Italian food and cocktails, and Saturday morning we woke up to a beautiful and rare sunny Seattle. We had a delicious brunch on the water at Westward Cafe.

Finishing brunch we went to see the Ballard locks to watch where the salmon swim upstream. While there we got to see a touring boat pull through and watch the water raise and lower as the boat got through the three levels. After exploring the locks we walked to Discovery Park to hike down to the beach to see the lighthouse and a view of Mt. Hood.

Discovery Park has a beautiful west coast beach. It is rocky and full of natural driftwood with mountains on every horizon. We walked towards the end of the beach, where I was excited to try out my new tripod for my camera. After taking a couple pictures Mike turned off the timer and set the camera to video. Recording the moment Mike got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

In our perfect moment together, of course, I said yes. After calling family and friends we went to the Six-Seven Restaurant to end the night with dinner overlooking a beautiful sunset over the water.

To top off the weekend, Mike planned a celebration back in San Francisco. Over cocktails and live Jazz music we relived the weekend sharing stories with friends. I have found my partner in life, and I am so excited to share many more moments together.
